CURRICULUM
Our private school has a continuing curriculum with each year building on the skills learned the year before which begins with our preschool classes. We stress the basic skills set of reading, math, and writing using fun and creative methods to make children want to learn. Our Houghton-Mifflin reading series is a literature-based program incorporating everything from basic phonics through to creative writing. We also use the Houghton-Mifflin math curriculum which teaches our students basic manipulative exercises and simple addition through to fractions and decimals. We also study various topics in social studies and science. In social studies we explore the world’s geography, history and culture. Our science class is aimed at fostering an inquisitive curiosity to understand how the world around us functions.
Pre-Kindergarten Our Pre-Kindergarten program is a Reading Readiness/Language Arts program. This class puts the finishing touches on our pre-school curriculum and prepares a child for Kindergarten. We use circle time and learning centers to promote both individual and social group development. Activities include art and music appreciation, pre-math, science and drama. Social studies include topics such as occupations, Texas culture and homes in other lands.
Bridge Bridge is a specially designed class for children who are academically advanced but not yet old enough to start in regular Kindergarten. It combines the first semester Kindergarten curriculum with science and social studies in an expanded Pre-Kindergarten class.
